Campaign of the Month: October 2007
Similar to Aponi, this country is under the strife of a war. The King and his family was assassinated by somebody, opening up the claims of three other competing families have laid waste to the lands here
King Assuay and his family hired several mercenary companies to defend his kingdom from the nobles who defied him and went into open warfare against him Assuay felt that by hiring the mercs along with his regular troops he could fend off any threat to him.
Assuay unfortunately believed that his generalship was superior to any of his nobles, reality proved him wrong and led to a general disaster. Falcons Raiders, The Kingmakers and the White Company were nearly completely obliterated and the survivors left Assuays employ. Many of the regulars fled to join the other side and Assuay was killed along with the other members of the royal family. An impromptu council has ordered all the foreigners to leave.
With the assassination of King Assuay, the various nobles kicked the mercenaries out of the country. The strongest of the nobles, Ojukwo has asserted his power over the other nobles. Those who have disagreed have disappeared. The populace is now under control of the remaining nobles and the Saurigs whom have come from the interior.
Many of the populace are enslaved and some are set up to be food for the Saurigs.
The land of Vemany is divided by the Zwangi River, a large river which tends to overflow its banks on almost annual basis. Some bless this event as a sign from Aswet(Silvanus) others curse it as bad luck. The Naami(druids) of the region see this as a natural order of things. The banks on both sides have had channels built within to get the maximum from the flooding so a visitor would see a large expanse on channels on both sides of the river extending miles inland and generally ending in large stone cisterns.
The lands to the west of the Zwangi have remained fertile over the ages and there are many towns and small cities to the west. Many of these are on trade routes to Aponi and Nutuli as well as lake Iswalli. The lands to the east are barren and infested with goblins and other assorted nasties. As the land dried out the people left, leaving many places to be abandoned. The people talk about evil spirits, the Haadai that arise from the abandoned places. These spirits are said to sap the will to live from those intrude on these lands. The lands of theeast are named the abandoned lands.
To the east of the abandoned lands lies the Sea of Tefa, the sea is infested with pirates and others. There are four ports along the Sea of Telfas. They are Mifu Sayafu, Namisha, Yamo, and Naona.
Mifu Sayafu is the largest of these places and is the most dangerous. Although the council is in charge of the country there is little law within the port area. It is divided by three power groups who are at constant warfare with each other. The three power groups are the Kweda, the Matotembo, and the Oto. The Kweda(hand of Darkness) are led by Stone Odaka, a Vemany Sorcerer. Stone is nicknamed The Tall Dagger. The Matotembo(Hounds Teeth) are led by Lavinia Batta(Rogue), the Oto(black Death) is led by Bhaskar Lakhia a Rindian fighter. The port is filled with many sunken ships, victims of the on going struggles. When a ship comes in, a captain needs to ally himself with one of the factions paying a fee for protection. The cost run between two and five percent of the gross, those whom short the protectors often become victims of those who profess to protect him. The port itself is divided into various districts. The law is whomever bribes the city officials the most or kills them off, trying to ensure a more profitable item.
The prefect of the city, Issac Zenami nominally is under the councils rule but is allowed by the three gangs to survive with the illusion of power.
Namishai is little more than a fishing village but has deep water which runs up to the shoreline. There is a deep sea canyon which houses sea elves and others. The village of Namisha sits up from the shoreline.
